CONGRESSMAN HALL STATEMENT HONORING VETERANS' DAY
On Veterans Day we pause to honor all those who have fought and sacrificed for our country throughout our Nation's history - and all those who are fighting today. The freedom we enjoy is a result of their courage, their commitment, and their determination. Our Nation owes them a debt of gratitude and respect that is eternal.
As we reflect on past wars and the challenges those have posed for America, we are mindful of the current War on Terror and of our soldiers who are fighting on the frontlines in Iraq and Afghanistan. I traveled to Iraq last August and came back with a renewed hope for that struggle and pride in the young soldiers I met. To a person, they believed in the cause and believed that, given enough time and resources, we would prevail. We applaud their determination, pay tribute to their sacrifice, and pray for their safe return. Our prayers also go to their families.
This year Congress is working to pass an appropriations bill that will improve and expand healthcare for veterans and help ensure that veterans' hospitals and clinics provide the best possible service and care. We also are working to permit alternative healthcare treatment for those in geographically inaccessible areas and are working to increase benefits in education, housing, and retired pay.
I am honored to represent the Fourth District, which has one of the largest veterans' populations in the country, and I will continue to keep their needs uppermost in hopes of serving those whose sacrifice has helped keep America safe and strong. May God bless these brave men and women, and may our soldiers come home from the war as soon as possible."
