Message From Governor Janet Napolitano
Today, we take the opportunity to give our thanks to the men and women who have served our nation in our armed forces. Their sacrifice is at the root of our security and prosperity - a fact which we pause to honor on this Veterans Day.
More than 600,000 of these veterans call Arizona home. Today, we honor these men and women around us who have touched our lives. Veterans are a critical part of our state - not merely in their participation in our society, culture and economy, but in the way they set an important example of service to others. Please take some time today to recognize the many veterans in our midst who have served our nation so selflessly.
As we celebrate their lives today, we must also honor their legacy throughout the year, by ensuring that those who have given so much to our nation receive the very best in return. That's why we've fought to increase the number of veterans' benefit counselors in Arizona, and are proud to say that today, we now have 43 counselors across our state, connecting veterans to the services and benefits they have earned while serving our country.
On this Veterans Day, we should also take time for a solemn remembrance of those servicemen and women - including 146 from Arizona - who have given their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. We are grateful to these brave men and women, and the families they leave behind, who have given so much to our country.
These individuals deserve our deepest honor and respect - on this Veterans Day, and throughout the year.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact my office at 1-800-253-0883 and ask to speak to Constituent Services.
Yours very truly,
