GOVERNOR TO JOIN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS, MADD TO PUSH FOR TOUGHER DRUNK DRIVING LAWS
Governor Mark Sanford will be in Lexington tomorrow (Wednesday, October 31, 2007) to join law enforcement officials and MADD to continue their call for the passage of tougher drunk driving laws. South Carolina's current DUI law is considered by many in law enforcement to be weak and unenforceable, a contributing factor in South Carolina's high DUI death rate. A tougher DUI bill has recently passed the S.C. House, and is currently being studied by a Senate panel. Tomorrow's news conference will take place at the main entrance to Lexington High School (2463 Augusta Hwy, Lexington) at 10:30 a.m. For more information or directions from your location, please contact Joel Sawyer in the Governor's Office at 803-734-2100.
