CONGRESSWOMAN GWEN MOORE RESPONDS TO VOTE TO OVERRIDE THE PRESIDENT'S VETO OF SCHIP
Moore: It Is A Shame That A Small Number of People Decided to Side with George Bush and Against America's Children Today
Congresswoman Gwen Moore released the following statement after the House of Representatives narrowly failed to override President Bush's veto of the State Children Health Insurance program:
"It is a shame that a small number of people decided to side with George Bush and against America's children today. The reauthorization of SCHIP is necessary, fiscally responsible legislation that will help struggling working families provide health insurance for their children.
"This bipartisan legislation would have provided health insurance to nearly 10 million children whose parents work but still can't afford health insurance. Opposing this legislation is senseless - it's difficult to imagine what these legislators were thinking when they voted against health care for our kids.
"I will continue to fight to reauthorize SCHIP."
