ILLINOIS LEGISLATORS PUSH AGAIN FOR FEMA TO SUPPORT DISASTER RELIEF
Roskam Urges Relief for DuPage and Cook Counties
Washington, Sep 27 - Congressman Peter J. Roskam (R-IL) today sent another letter to President George W. Bush urging DuPage and Cook Counties be declared federal disaster areas in the wake of last month's severe storm and flood damage. Roskam released the following statement:
"Despite six Illinois Counties being declared federal disaster areas, DuPage and Cook Counties remain ineligible for federal assistance.
"The disparity in declarations is stark. Lake County was named a disaster zone this past Tuesday for, what their officials reported, $393,000 in damage. By comparison, The City of Des Plaines alone has spent more than $2 million in its clean up.
"This single community remains ineligible for federal aid while it watches an entire county reap the benefits with substantially less damage.
"I strongly urge that federal funds be made available for all of affected communities in DuPage and Cook Counties."
