KINGSTON STATEMENT ON PETRAEUS IRAQ REPORT
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA/01) issued the following statement after General David Petraeus delivered his progress report on Iraq before a joint hearing of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Armed Services.
"At the hearing today, General Petraeus delivered an honest and objective report that highlights the success this surge has achieved," Congressman Jack Kingston said. "Security incidences have declined eight of the past twelve weeks, civilian deaths have declined and for the past five months, car bombings and suicide attacks have been down. But along with the good, the General acknowledged that there are still difficulties to overcome. He is right; there is no easy answer or quick solution to Iraq. But we do know the easy answer if we withdraw our troops now - chaos. When we leave, we owe it to our troops and the Iraqi people to leave them a stable, secure Iraq."
Last month, Congressman Kingston took his third trip to Iraq where he met with General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker.
