ROSKAM STATEMENT ON O'HARE EXPANSION RULING
Washington, Sep 14 - Congressman Peter J. Roskam (R-IL) today issued the following statement after the United States 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the City of Chicago in a 2-1 opinion allowing the city to proceed with plans in the O'Hare Modernization Program to move 1,400 graves in the St. Johannes Cemetery.
"The ruling by the court today is deeply disheartening. When I was in the Illinois General Assembly, I was a sponsor of the Illinois Religious Freedom Restoration Act. I fought for the protection of our religious liberties. Here the court has ignored an important constitutional principle, a First Amendment principle that protects what so many of us hold so dearly, our religious beliefs. I will continue to support my constituents and work for their right to religious expression."
