Lincoln, Pryor Announce Passage of Central High Resolution

U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor (both D-Ark.) today announced that the full Senate has approved their resolution recognizing the 50th anniversary of the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School. The resolution was agreed to by unanimous consent on September 7, 2007.

"I am pleased that our Senate colleagues have joined us in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the momentous events at Central High School," said Lincoln. "The legacy of the Little Rock Nine continues to inspire us to build on the progress we have made in securing an equal education for all."

"The swift passage of this legislation is a clear testament to the extraordinary legacy of the Little Rock Nine," said Pryor. "To this day, their spirit of courage and justice serves as a powerful example of how we can all be a force for positive change."

The resolution introduced by Lincoln and Pryor recognizes the extraordinary bravery and courage of the Little Rock Nine who helped expand opportunity and equality in public education in Arkansas and throughout the country by becoming the first African-American students at Central High School. The resolution encourages all Americans to reflect on the importance of the anniversary and to continue to work to ensure that all of America's children have access to an equal opportunity in education.
