SUBJECT: FAIR AND EQUITABLE TAX POLICY FOR AMERICA'S WORKING FAMILIES

REP. JOHN LEWIS (D-GA): Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Chairman, let me thank the witnesses for being here. Since we have these three distinguished economists here, I'd just like to ask a very general question, and may be I can come back to something in particular. We have this unbelievable involvement abroad in a war in Iraq and Afghanistan. And the only people that are being called upon to sacrifice are young men and our young women in uniform. I'd like to hear your opinion about is there some way to use the tax code to get other Americans to sacrifice, to pay something, for our involvement in these two military conflicts? Is it fair, is it right, is this just?
