Governor Riley Comments on State Board of Education's Vote to Ban Double Dipping in the Two-Year College System

Governor Bob Riley issued the following statement on Thursday following the State Board of Education's decision to ban double dipping in Alabama's two-year college system:

"This is an historic day for Alabama, a day that has brought reform and accountability to a system that has seen so much abuse. Our postsecondary employees, the students and certainly the taxpayers deserve an end to the corruption we've seen in the two-year college system. Today, the state school board showed great courage in voting to reform the system and end the abuses of double dipping. I commend the board for their votes and I congratulate Chancellor Byrne for his leadership in bringing these policies before us.

"In the last legislative session, I introduced a bill that would ban double dipping across the board - in every state agency, in our two-year and four-year colleges, and in our K-12 system. The Legislature failed to pass it or even bring it out of committee. I'll continue fighting to ban double dipping everywhere it exists. The people of Alabama understand double dipping is an abuse of the public trust. I hope more legislators will come to realize that and join me in efforts to ban double dipping."
