MOORE: STRAINED TROOPS DESERVE REASONABLE REST, RECUPERATION BETWEEN DEPLOYMENTS

Congresswoman Gwen Moore released the following statement after House passage of the Ensuring Military Readiness Through Stability and Predictability Deployment Policy Act, which requires a minimum rest and recuperation period for members of the Armed Forces between deployments in Iraq.

"Our troops serve faithfully, enduring the stress of combat day in and day out through extended and multiple tours. We ought to return their loyalty by ensuring that they simply get reasonable time between combat deployments in Iraq," Congresswoman Gwen Moore said.

"This Administration's failed policy in Iraq has placed an enormous strain on our military personnel. We are working to force the President to adhere to Defense Department standards so that our military personnel are not overburdened with repeated deployments. This legislation would ensure that our service men and women are allotted reasonable time to train and recuperate between deployments.

"Our troops put their lives on the line to dutifully serve our nation and it is our duty to ensure they get adequate rest and recuperation after they go into harm's way in Iraq."
