FDA Sends Ignored Step-Child to Live with Relatives 3000 Miles Away
Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) issued the following statement amid reports that the Food and Drug Administration is exploring the idea of privatizing more than 300 jobs. This effort to contract out these positions to the private sector comes at a time the nation faces a food safety crisis, with numerous recalls of imported products over the past months.
"Instead of reviewing their food safety efforts to determine areas of improvement, the FDA is looking to privatize over 300 jobs, which initially included lab technicians and field office workers at the very facilities that inspect food and medical products. While they have backed away from these specific positions, there still appears an unnecessary rush to move forward with this proposal. I strongly urge the FDA to abandon this ill-considered idea."
"When it comes to the FDA, it would seem that if there is a terrible idea for addressing food and drug safety issues, the FDA finds a way to consider it."
