ROSKAM APPLAUDS COURT DECISION TO HALT BENSENVILLE DEMOLITION
Congressman Peter J. Roskam (R-IL) today issued the following statement in response to a DuPage County Circuit Court decision to temporarily halt the demolition of hundreds of homes and businesses in the path of the O'Hare Airport expansion.
"Today's decision is a huge victory for the health and safety of the families of Bensenville," said Roskam. "I am glad that the City of Chicago now must properly assess the possible health risks associated with the destruction of homes and businesses in the Acquisition Area. Careful deliberation will now take precedent over the haste that has marked this process."
Last week, Roskam sent a letter to the Acting Regional Administrator of the FAA's Great Lakes Region and the Regional Administrator for the EPA's Chicagoland office, Roskam expressed his concern for the heath and safety of his constituents in Bensenville, highlighting the lack of knowledge about the potential public health threats of the proposed demolition activity to the 160 families remaining in the Acquisition Area.
