Wilson Statement on Unclassified Summary of National Intelligence Estimate on the Terrorist Threat to the US Homeland

Rep. Heather Wilson, Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Technical and Tactical Intelligence, today released the following statement:

"As today's NIE makes clear, Al Qaeda and other Islamist terrorist groups continue to plan attacks on the United States that would kill large numbers of Americans.

"Intelligence is our first line of defense in the war on terror. That is why I continue to call for immediate fixes to our foreign intelligence surveillance law so that we can detect and disrupt terrorist plots before they strike. We have a glaring problem and only Congress can fix it.

"Our signals intelligence agencies are not listening to foreign communications by foreigners in foreign countries because our electronic surveillance laws have not kept pace with changes in technology. More resources will not solve this problem. Fixing the FISA law must be the top national security priority of the Congress so that we can use all of our intelligence tools against foreign targets overseas and disrupt terrorist attacks."
