HOUSE PASSES LABOR-HHS APPROPRIATIONS BILL
Today the House of Representatives passed the $607 billion Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2008 (HR 3043). Congressman Chip Pickering announced two projects funded by the legislation in Amite and Lauderdale Counties.
The measure provides $135,000 to the Amite County Medical Services clinic in Liberty, Mississippi. The money will be combined with previous funding and USDA Rural Development resources to build a new facility. The current facility was constructed in 1965. This clinic is the only provider of medical and dental care in the Amite County. "Amite County Medical Services continues to demonstrate its need and effectiveness of treating people in Southwest Mississippi. This funding will help construct a new, up-to-date facility so people in Amite County will have professional, safe, and modern health resources," Pickering said.
The measure also provides $215,000 for Hope Village for Children in Meridian. This funding will expand the emergency shelter and therapeutic care program at the facility. "Hope Village for Children provides a nurturing and healthy home for children who may not have a family," Pickering said, "and this funding will help provide a more effective experience and a more safe life."
