I wanted to bring you up to date on two developments last week regarding proposed immigration reform legislation being considered in the Senate.
On Tuesday, the House Republican Conference overwhelmingly approved a resolution expressing disapproval of the Senate immigration bill. I supported the resolution and signed an earlier letter asking the conference to vote on the resolution.
On Thursday, an effort to advance the bill in the Senate was fortunately turned back. It is unclear if the bill will be revived at a later date.
I remain steadfastly opposed to the proposed Senate bill. I also remain steadfastly opposed to amnesty. Getting control of our borders must be the top priority of any immigration reform effort. We also must do a better job enforcing laws already on the books.
I hope this information is useful.
