McKeon Statement on Failed Senate Immigration Bill
U.S. Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) made the following statement today regarding the defeat of the Senate amnesty - immigration bill. The bill fell short of the 60 votes needed this morning to advance for a final vote on the Senate floor.
"Today's failed Senate bill proves the power of the American people. The citizens of the 25th Congressional District made their views against amnesty pointedly clear to me, and obviously, this was a call made around the nation and to members of the U.S. Senate. The failure of this legislation is marked by the public's disapproval of providing illegal immigrants a path to citizenship.
More importantly, however, is where we go from here. Instead of pursuing an ill-fated amnesty bill, we must start fresh and work even harder in the House and the Senate to pass a bill that secures our borders, enforces our laws and meets our country's economic needs - without amnesty."
