State Capitol Executive Tower Lobby
As you may know, I am dedicated to improving the quality of education for Arizona's children. However, I believe that the responsibility that we have for educating our children extends beyond classroom walls.
Thousands of Arizona children start each school year without the necessary supplies to succeed academically. We want to enable our children to receive the best education possible by giving them the necessary resources to succeed.
To meet this need, I am proud to participate in a "Stuff the Bus" event from July 21 - August 15. Stuff the Bus is a collaborative effort between the Salvation Army, KISS FM, KFYI, KEZ (Clear Channel Communications) Fulton Homes, and Desert Ridge Marketplace to provide children in need with backpacks and school supplies. Thanks also to Ira Fulton and Lieutenant Colonel Don Mowrey for their help in this effort.
My goal is to provide back-to-school items for 4,000 children at 27 schools Valley-wide, 2 schools in Tucson, and 1 school in Flagstaff. Schools selected to receive items through "Stuff the Bus," are those that have the highest percentage of students on the free and reduced lunch program in each district.
I urge state employees to join me in supporting this effort. Collection boxes are set up throughout the Executive Tower for donations, which will be taken until August 15th. Members of the public are asked to donate supplies at Desert Ridge Market Place Storefront locations.
And now I'm pleased to introduce a big supporter of the Stuff the Bus campaign, Mr. Ira Fulton
