Enzi pleased with signing of Medicare bill

Washington, D.C. - The President signed into law today the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003.

The law will help to create a modern Medicare system, allow for the biggest improvements in senior health care in nearly 40 years, and provide seniors with prescription drug benefits and more choices in health care.

U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., who voted in favor of the bill, said it is a step in the right direction toward a renewed Medicare system.

Enzi's comments follow.

"This is a 21st Century plan that means more choices and better benefits for seniors. I hope the members who voted against the bill will give it a chance to work before blindly dismissing it and trying to change it.

"This bill may not be perfect, but it is progress.

"Helping to monitor the bill by making constructive comments, or taking positive steps to help with its implementation is what is needed now to help seniors in Wyoming and the nation who depend upon Medicare to pay for their health care needs.

"A bipartisan majority agreed that improving Medicare is important and I hope my colleagues will continue to focus on the good that is in this bill."
