KENNEDY ON IMMIGRATION BILL DEBATE

Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy released the following statement in anticipation of the debate to begin Monday on the immigration bill.

"Now that the immigration bill has been drafted and debate will begin on Monday, it is time for the American people and members of Congress to debate and learn the details of this comprehensive and complex reform measure. The plan will strengthen our borders and our national security while providing a tough but fair path to citizenship for millions of people. The bill isn't exactly the way I would have written it, but it is a strong compromise and the best chance we will have to finally fix this broken system. The price of inaction is too high."
