Blackburn, GOP Conference Unveil 21st Century Energy Plan
Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) joined fellow members of the Republican Conference today in unveiling a wide-ranging American energy policy designed to power the United States well into the 21st century.
The plan, released at a press conference on the Capitol steps this afternoon, offers a long-term vision that looks to exploration and the use of cutting-edge technology to provide clean, affordable and consistent American-made energy sources for decades to come.
This energy policy will focus of the exploration of renewable and alternative fuels, such as bio-diesel and solar, promote the construction of new nuclear power plants as well as new innovative energy technologies.
"We must look to the future to prevent the mistakes of the past. We learned from the energy crisis of the late 70's, by creating a comprehensive energy plan that addresses the energy concerns of today as well as tomorrow," Blackburn said.
"Within 20 years, our energy needs are expected to increase nearly 50 percent. America must diversify its energy producing capacity to keep up with this demand.
"It is inherently against America's national security interests to be dependent on the Middle East to provide our energy demands. American energy security is critical to American national security."
