Blackburn Statement on Passage of Iraq War Supplemental Bill

Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) released the following statement regarding the House passage of H.R. 2206, the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill to fund the war effort in Iraq and Afghanistan:

"I am relieved that the Democrat leadership finally acted to end a long run of political theater by sending legislation to the President's desk that will fund our troops in the field without artificial timetables for failure. By passing the legislation today, the House will ensure that our generals and military professionals conduct this war; not Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Caucus."

"Unfortunately, the Liberal Leadership in the House and Senate would not send a clean bill to the President. They instead chose to put $120 billion in essential funding for our troops at risk by attaching more than $18 billion on non-security related domestic programs, $110 million for domestic shrimp and fishing industries, and a job-killing mandatory minimum wage hike."

The Congressman added that H.R. 2206 cleared the House more than 108 days after the President's initial request, and followed several attempts to tie our generals' hands with unworkable mandates and requirements. Said the Congressman: "They might be 108 days late, but it's better late than never."
