The American Dream has always been symbolized by the ownership of a home and land. But now private property rights are under attack. By a 5-4 vote the U.S. Supreme Court redefined eminent domain, allowing government to seize your property for "private economic development projects" that would increase the "tax base." This is radically different from the traditional use of eminent domain for broad public purposes like building roads, schools, or libraries. The Kelo decision increased the power of government to enrich itself and big developers at the expense of individual liberty and property. This is legalized theft based on greed. It is immoral and unjust. As your Congressman, I will work to restore justice and sanity to this issue. I will work to protect your home and your land.
