Kerry, Kennedy introduce bill to help protect Boston Harbor Islands

Senators John Kerry and Edward Kennedy introduced a bill that would authorize the Secretary of the Interior to enter into cooperative agreements with any of the management partners for the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area.

The bill would amend the Omnibus Parks and Public Lands Management Act of 1996 to allow for the Park Service to enter into agreements with the not-for-profit Island Alliance to help manage various projects at the park.

"This bill will enable projects to become more streamlined and efficient and will allow the Park Service to achieve the greatest bang for the public tax dollar," said Senator Kerry. "It's good for the management and operation of the park, and it will allow the citizens of Massachusetts to fully enjoy the Boston Harbor Islands."

"This bill will strengthen the Park Service's efforts to protect the Boston Harbor Islands by allowing it to partner with the Island Alliance on a wide array of public access improvements. The Island Alliance has been an outstanding steward of the Harbor Islands, and this important measure will allow it to work more closely with the Park Service on behalf of the Boston Harbor Islands and its visitors. I look forward to working with Sen. Kerry and Congressman Delahunt to have it enacted," said Senator Kennedy.
