Governor Riley Orders Flags on State Buildings Lowered to Half-Staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day

Governor Bob Riley ordered flags on all state buildings to be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, May 15 in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day. The Governor is also encouraging schools and local governments to lower flags on their facilities. President George W. Bush issued a proclamation declaring May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day across the nation. Flags on federal buildings will also be lowered to half-staff in honor of law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

"Protecting the lives of others is a noble calling, and we as Alabamians will pause and remember those peace officers who made the ultimate sacrifice," Governor Riley said.

On Thursday, Governor Riley will speak at a joint session of the Legislature to honor Alabama's peace officers.
