"Results are encouraging, but we cannot let up."

Wilmington, DE - Senator Carper is proud of the marked improvements shown by Delaware's public school students in grades four and eight on the 2003 Math and Reading National Assessment of Education Progress tests (NAEP).

"These national test results confirm that significant reforms to our public school system are paying off. Students, teachers, administrators and parents should be proud of the hard work they are doing both in and out of the classroom," said Senator Carper. "Students have made tremendous gains since 1996. The results are encouraging, but we cannot let up. As I have said before, 49 other states will not be slowing down. Our quality of life and standard of living will improve in the 21st Century if we continue to produce students who read and write well, are proficient in math, think creatively, and use technology effectively."
