Shuster Urges Postal Service to Save Spring Run Post Office

This week, Congressman Bill Shuster urged the United States Postal Service to take action to keep postal operations in the community Spring Run, Franklin County open.

"For nearly 150 years, the Spring Run Post Office has served the people of Franklin County well," Shuster said. "It would be unfortunate to see such a successful living piece of Franklin County history shut its doors due to a land-lease dispute."

Customers of the Spring Run Post Office were told that the facility would close on May 30th once its lease expires. Roughly 500 residents signed a petition to keep the post office open.

"Universal Service is key to keeping commerce and communications moving even in this age of e-mail and the Internet," Shuster added. "At the heart of that service is your local post office and rural communities should not be kept from that service."

"I have been in contact with the Postal Service constantly since the announcement of the Post Office's closure and my conversations have been constructive and very productive," Shuster added. "I am very pleased that the Postal Service has taken a second look at the potential closing of Spring Run. "I remain confident that the United States Postal Service will come to a speedy and favorable resolution to this situation that will keep the Post Office open."
