Ros-Lehtinen Responds To Department Of Interior's Proposed Plan To Expand Oil Drilling Off The Florida Coast
Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen, a Member of the Florida Delegation and strong opponent against oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, issued the following statement in response to the Department of Interior's proposal to expand oil drilling possibilities off the Florida coast:
"Yesterday's proposal is the result of recent Federal measures to weaken Florida's protection from oil and gas drilling, measures which I have consistently opposed and voted against. While the Department's plan has yet to be finalized, I am extremely concerned for the dangerous precedent it sets for those who seek to destabilize Florida's tourist economy and environmental protection by allowing oil companies to drill within miles of our pristine coastline."
On Monday, the Department of the Interior announced a major Federal initiative to increase oil and gas drilling on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf in the Gulf of Mexico.
