GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES NEW IN-HOME SERVICES PROGRAM FOR SENIORS

Gov. Joe Manchin today announced that a new in-home services program for seniors will begin July 1, 2007. As a result of legislation introduced by the governor and passed by the West Virginia Legislature during this year's regular session, the LIGHTHOUSE Program was created by the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services to help assist seniors.

"It has been a dream of mine to have assistance available for those seniors who have worked hard all their lives but find that they ‘fall through the cracks' of eligibility for social services programs," Gov. Manchin said. "I am proud that the Bureau of Senior Services has created a program that will fulfill this need. LIGHTHOUSE services will be provided through the senior centers in every county of the state and will touch the lives of thousands of our citizens."

The program will be geared toward those 60+ who do not qualify for other in-home services (i.e. Medicaid) and will provide personal care and environmental assistance for up to 60 hours per month.
