GOODLATTE STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT RULING ON PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION BAN
Congressman Bob Goodlatte issued the following statement following today's U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act.
"I am pleased that the Supreme Court has ruled to uphold the Partial Birth Abortion Ban which overwhelmingly passed the House in 2003 and President Bush signed into law. The Supreme Court's decision is a reaffirmation of what the majority of Americans already know -- this gruesome procedure, which is performed in the second and third trimesters, is one of the most horrible forms of abortion practiced. There is no justification for this brutal and heartless procedure and this ruling ensures that it will no longer be used."
Congressman Goodlatte was a cosponsor of the Partial-Birth Abortion Act which passed the U.S. House by a vote of 281-142, and by the Senate by a vote of 64-34 on October 2 and October 21, 2003 respectively. President Bush signed the legislation into law on November 5, 2003.
