Date: March 20, 2007
Location: Olympia, WA
Issues: Education

Governor Chris Gregoire today said the biennial budget proposal released by Representative Helen Sommers, chair of the state House Appropriations Committee, takes positive steps to improve education, provide high-quality health care and keep the state economy going strong.

"My top priority is education and Representative Sommers has delivered an education budget," said Governor Gregoire. In addition to education, the House budget proposal is similar to Governor Gregoire's proposal, making significant investments in children, health care, public safety and the clean up of Puget Sound.

"I will continue to work with legislators toward a world-class education system, quality affordable health care and investments that create jobs and support our economy," said Governor Gregoire.
