Pelosi Statement on Bipartisan Commission on Walter Reed, Military Hospitals

Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the poor care soldiers have received at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and other facilities:

"Revelations of poor care of wounded soldiers and veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Center have shocked the nation. The brave men and women who were the recipients of this mistreatment already paid a heavy price in our country's service. Instead of having their needs made a national priority, they became victims of the Administration's pattern of neglect.

"As Congress continues to hold intense oversight hearings on the care our returning soldiers receive at Walter Reed and other facilities, I welcome the assistance the bipartisan Presidential Commission will provide. We must identify the problems and put in place a system that will guarantee the best care for our returning soldiers and our veterans.

"On the battlefield, our troops pledge to leave no soldier behind. As a nation, let it be our pledge that when they return home, we leave no veteran behind."
