Gov. Perry Announces FEMA Housing Aid Extension
Gov. Rick Perry today announced that FEMA is extending housing aid by six more months for the many people who are still displaced from hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The previous deadline was scheduled for the end of February.
"I am pleased that the Gulf Coast residents displaced by hurricanes Katrina and Rita will continue to receive the necessary housing assistance from the federal government," Perry said. "This extension is a welcome relief for these families who are in Texas, and who after nearly 17 months, are still rebuilding their lives."
Details regarding this extension are expected later this week.
"The transition of hurricane evacuees to long-term stability remains a FEMA responsibility," Perry added. "Accordingly, Texas supports these efforts by FEMA to meet the unique housing needs of individuals and families during the transition."
