Letter: To Marion C. Blakey, Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration
Dear Administrator Blakey:
I am writing to urge that the Federal Aviation Administration work with Mayor Lang and airport officials from the city of New Bedford, Massachusetts to turn on the airport approach lights, which have been turned off due to vegetative growth, as quickly as possible. The continued absence of these lights has left many, including numerous pilots who utilize this airport, concerned that an important guidance system is not available.
The city is clearing the area in and around the lights, and it is essential that FAA inspectors work directly with the city to get the lights turned on again. Since the city is taking the steps necessary to accomplish the restoration of this important safety feature, I urge your agency to do all that it can to ensure that this action happens at the earliest possible time. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
