REP. GOHMERT VOTES AGAINST EMBRYONIC STEM CELL BILL

U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert (TX-01) today spoke on the House Floor expressing his concern with the Democrat's Embryonic Stem Cell Bill. "This vote was not about stopping the ongoing embryonic stem cell research or cutting the current funding for stem cell research. That research is ongoing and perfectly legal. Congress has funded tremendous amounts of stem cell research in the past and will continue to do so. This vote is about prying money from tax-payers hands who believe it is illegal, immoral and unethical to kill a living embryo. "Amniotic non-embryonic stem cells now appear to offer the same research possibilities as embryonic stem cells without creating tumors as do embryonic stem cells. We've also seen stem cells from non-controversial sources like umbilical cord blood be used to treat humans afflicted with more than 70 illnesses while embryonic stem cells have treated none successfully. Most of us know the heartbreak of watching someone we love suffer and ultimately die. We want to see them made whole again. We are currently funding the research that shows the most promise and the most respect for human life and that will continue though this bill will likely be vetoed." Rep. Gohmert represents the First District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Gohmert serves on three key House committees: Judiciary, Resources, and Small Business.
