Duncan Named Ranking Republican on Highways, Transit and Pipelines Subcommittee
U.S. Rep. John J. Duncan, Jr. (TN-02) was named the Ranking Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Highways, Transit and Pipelines Subcommittee today.

In being selected as the Ranking Republican on the Highways, Transit and Pipelines Subcommittee, Rep. Duncan will be assuming a leadership role on one of the most influential Subcommittees in Congress. The Highways, Transit and Pipelines Subcommittee is one of the largest subcommittees in the House of Representatives and oversees about 75 percent of the budgetary resources at the Department of Transportation.
"The Highways, Transit and Pipelines Subcommittee has jurisdiction over legislation that affects every American. We all use our highways and transit systems to commute on a daily basis, and billions of dollars of consumer goods are transported on America's highways everyday."

In the 110th Congress, the Highways, Transit and Pipelines Subcommittee will begin work on the next surface transportation reauthorization bill. The current authorization bill, which provides key federal funding for highway and transit construction projects as well as state highway and trucking safety programs, expires in 2009.
The Subcommittee also has jurisdiction over the work of 6 modes at the Department of Transportation including: The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA).
