110th Congress Convenes

Dear Friends,
With the convening of the 110th Congress in January, it's once again my honor to serve and represent North Alabama's 4th Congressional district. This is a duty that I take very seriously.

It's a historic time for Congress with the election of new House leadership and marks the first time that Democrats have controlled Congress since 1995.

With the new Democratic majority in place there will be changes in the operation of the House. With control comes responsibility. I believe that the new majority should be given the opportunity to lead. However as a Republican and member of the minority, my responsibility will be to challenge their positions at times, in a principled manner which serves both the United States and the 4th Congressional District.

While Congress has changed, my commitment to the people of North Alabama remains constant.

As the House considers these issues, my guiding principle will be to ensure that the people of the 4th Congressional District are protected and given full consideration under each proposal.

In many ways, much will stay the same for me during the 110th Congress. I will continue to serve on the House Appropriations Committee which is responsible for funding all non-entitlement federal programs and all federal departments. Additionally I will serve on three of the Appropriations Subcommittees: Homeland Security; Transportation; and, Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies.

I'm pleased that I'm going to be able to continue my work on the Appropriations Committee. It's important that Congress enforce fiscal discipline on government spending, however at the same time, work for Alabama and the 4th Congressional District. Certainly a seat on the Appropriations Committee affords me an excellent opportunity to do just that.

My top priority on the Appropriations Committee remains leveraging the resources of the federal government to create good, high paying jobs while encouraging the growth and economic development of our local communities.

I look forward to working with my colleagues across the aisle as they offer their thoughts on how our country should operate. My mission in Congress remains the same: to continue supporting our traditional Alabama values while providing opportunities for each citizen to achieve and excel and make Alabama the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

I hope that if you have any questions or issues that you will contact one of my offices listed at the bottom of this email message. My job is to serve you. It's one that I enjoy and look forward to fulfilling over the next two years.

Sincerely,

Congressman Robert Aderholt
Alabama's Fourth District
