Ros-Lehtinen Votes To Reform The Pension Program For Members Of Congress
Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, senior Member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, issued the following statement after voting to reform the pension plan for Members of Congress. The final vote was 431-0.
The bill, Pension Forfeiture Act, will amend existing laws to prohibit a Member from receiving his/her Congressional pension if convicted of certain felonies in connection with their official duties.
"The integrity and conduct of a public official should be beyond reproach. If you are serving in Congress and you are convicted of a felonious act, then you should not be entitled to your Congressional pension. It is that simple. We will not tolerate even the slightest hint of impropriety from our colleagues and this legislation will assure that the consequences will be just as tough as the crime committed."
