Several New York companies are already suffering from under-priced imports

Washington, DC - Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today welcomed The United States International Trade Commission (ITC)'s determination that U.S. industry is materially injured by reason of imports of refined brown aluminum oxide from China. The determination was made today on the basis of a U.S. Department of Commerce determination that these imports are sold in the United States at less than fair value. Last month Senator Clinton wrote to ITC Secretary Marilyn Abbott requesting such a decision on behalf of a number of New York businesses, including two in Western New York, that have been adversely affected by these cheap imports.

"With the U.S. market already suffering, cheap imports of aluminum oxide are driving down U.S. prices down and depressing the local industry even further," Senator Clinton said. "We must ensure that our industries receive appropriate relief from the impact of unfair foreign trade practices. China must not be allowed to continue with these cheap imports. I welcome the International Trade Commission's decision today is that China is trading unfairly into the U.S. market and look forward to appropriate duties being placed on Chinese imports."
