Mack Reaction to the President's State of the Union Address
Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) issued the following statement this evening in response to President Bush's State of the Union address.
"In his State of the Union address this evening, President Bush discussed the challenges and opportunities facing our nation and expressed his confidence that America's brightest years are ahead. Our nation is strong and will grow even stronger because every American has the opportunity to achieve their American Dream.
"I am pleased that the President discussed the need for greater spending reform in his address. I have said time and again that the people of Southwest Florida and the rest of the nation deserve a government that taxes less, spends less and regulates less. We can provide the key services people need, but at a price we can afford, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and the Administration to do just that.
"I also applaud President Bush's commitment to improving our country's energy independence. As I have said before, we need to lessen our dependence on foreign and domestic sources of oil and take real steps to increase the supply of alternative fuels to ensure clean air and clean water. Our children and grandchildren deserve nothing less.
"And, while I remain inclined to support the President's Iraq plan at this time, it will take more than just an increase in troop strength alone to succeed and we need to see real results soon. But tonight, every American should take a moment to pay special tribute to the brave men and women fighting to keep us free. Their sacrifices will ultimately ensure that America remains free, secure and prosperous for generations to come."
