KENNEDY, ENZI JOINT STATEMENT ON PRESCRIPTION DRUG USER FEE ACT
Washington, D.C. - Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor,
and Pensions (HELP) Committee and Ranking Member Senator Michael Enzi released the following
joint statement on the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA):

"These thoughtful recommendations by FDA and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries are
an excellent starting point for our deliberations in Congress on renewing and improving the drug user
fee program. This program has been a great success in speeding safe and effective new drugs to
patients, and Congress has a responsibility to act quickly to renew it. We look forward to working
with our colleagues in Congress to implement and, where necessary, strengthen these proposals. We
must make certain that the legislation to renew the user fee program ensures that adequate resources
are devoted to drug safety oversight at FDA."
