Matheson Gains Subcommittee Seats

Congressman Jim Matheson today was selected for three subcommittees of the House Energy and Commerce Committee that oversee Matheson priorities such as nuclear waste, national energy policy, health care and protecting children.

Matheson's three subcommittees are Health; Energy and Air Quality; and Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection. The Health Subcommittee has jurisdiction over public health, biomedical programs, Medicaid and national health insurance, and food and drugs. The Energy and Air Quality subcommittee oversees national energy policy generally, regulation of nuclear facilities, nuclear energy and waste, and the Clean Air Act. The Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection oversees consumer protection, including privacy matters, product liability, motor vehicle safety and the Federal Trade Commission.

"Whether it's cleaning up the Moab Tailings pile, fighting against high level nuclear waste, or protecting kids from adult material on the Internet, I am in the right place at the right time to pursue an agenda that is important to Utah families," said Matheson. "Today is 'hit the ground running' day for me on those issues and many others important to my state."
