CONGRESSWOMAN JOHNSON APPLAUDS GROUNDWORK DALLAS' RECEIPT OF CONSERVATION GRANT

Congresswoman Johnson applauded Groundwork Dallas for winning a grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior to improve Dallas' Great Trinity Forest and surrounding areas. The grant specifies that Groundwork Dallas will partner with the National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program to create a "Green Team" employing local youth to develop and maintain trails in the forest and its gateway neighborhoods.

Groundwork Dallas is a nonprofit organization with a mission to improve access to the Great Trinity Forest by planning, building and maintaining nature trails. The organization also sponsors and coordinates clean-ups and beautification projects in and around South Dallas' neighborhoods, parks, waterways, and brownfield areas.

"Dallas will greatly benefit from this funding and partnership with the Department of Interior," said Congresswoman Johnson. I am grateful for Groundwork Dallas' efforts to employ economically challenged neighborhood youth and train them to develop and maintain the forest trails. This work to beautify our green space will make the Great Trinity Forest more accessible to Dallas residents and visitors."
