ALLARD STATEMENT ON IRAQ STUDY GROUP REPORT

U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) issued the following statement about the release of the Iraq study group report earlier today:

"Many of the ideas in the report have been discussed previously, either with our allies in the region or in Congressional Committees. I believe the president will take the recommendations in the report seriously and be flexible in our approach going forward.

"Wars are not static events, and we've been making changes in Iraq policy since the beginning of this conflict.

"As this war has progressed, it has concerned me that the Iraqis remain too dependent on us. I'm pleased that the Iraq Study Group emphasizes the increased responsibility and initiative that Iraqis must be willing to accept to be self-supportive. That's going to be a tough love message from President Bush to the leadership in Iraq.

"Whatever decisions we make in Iraq the next year must be made with America's national security as our top priority."
