Hyde Schedules Conference on United States and India Nuclear Cooperation Promotion Act of 2006

U.S. Rep. Henry J. Hyde (R-IL), Chairman of the House Committee on International Relations, announces the first meeting between the House-Senate conference on the United States and India Nuclear Cooperation Promotion Act of 2006, scheduled for today, December 5, 2006, at 4:30 p.m. in room 2172 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
The agreement would allow the U.S. to sell technology to India for civil nuclear power, while in return, India will separate its nuclear facilities used for civilian purposes from its military facilities, open several of its nuclear facilities to international inspections, agree not to test nuclear weapons and strengthen its nuclear export controls, among other provisions.

Hyde said, "This legislation is a cornerstone of the President's vision for a new strategic partnership between the United States and India that will promote greater regional and international stability."
