Emanuel Calls Raid Evidence for Reform
Democratic Caucus Chair Rahm Emanuel (D-Il) released the following statement in response to reports that federal agents have targeted illegal immigrants by raiding meatpacking plants and arresting hundreds of workers for identity theft.
"Yesterday's raid on immigrant workers by Immigration and Customs Enforcement underscores the need for immigration reform which includes effective workplace enforcement," said Emanuel. "Real workplace reform and enforcement starts with a tamper proof Social Security card and an effective database where employers can verify the legal status of job applicants."
