Berkley Statement on the Resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld

Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D-NV) today released the following statement regarding the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld:

"It's about time. I first called for Secretary Rumsfeld's resignation in 2004, when the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal highlighted his indifferent leadership. I repeated my call later that year when he made light of our troops' lack of armor by saying, ‘You go to war with the Army you have…not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later time.' And I have continued to demand his removal as it became clear that he helped lead us into a war with false information, a conflict that has become a deadly diversion from the global war on terrorism. I hope yesterday's election results will convince this administration to work with Congress to change course in Iraq. Secretary Rumsfeld's resignation is a good start."
