We are a prosperous nation, yet too many working families lack the capital and contacts they need to secure the livelihood that they deserve. The Bush Administration's cynical tax cuts have divided the nation into the lucky and the left-out. It is time for a return to "we-first" policy and escape the grip of Bush's "me-first" politics. We Democrats believe that investing in our workforce is investment in families, in innovation, and in the ideas economy. This course is rooted in protecting labor, protecting the collective bargaining process, protecting long-term health care, protecting unemployment insurance, raising the minimum wage, and thwarting any attempt by big business lobbyists to undermine the Family Medical Leave Act.
