Bachmann and House Intelligence Chair, Hoekstra Discuss National Security
Saturday, September 9, 2006

Today, Congressman Pete Hoekstra (MI-02), Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, stumped for Michele Bachmann, who is running for Minnesota's 6th Congressional District. Hoekstra is the latest high profile political leader in a parade of prominent Republicans who are throwing their support behind the Minnesota State Senator. Bachmann and Hoekstra spent the morning discussing the country's fight against Radical Islamists with reporters.

"I love America," stated Bachmann. "The number one goal of government is to insure the safety of its people. The report on Iran just issued by Hoekstra's committee, Recognizing Iran as a Strategic Threat: An Intelligence Challenge for the United States, illustrates clearly we are a target. Iran's president says, 'And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States or Zionism.' This threat is real. We must have a pro-active strategy for dealing with all who would do us harm."

"Good guys do not hang out with Hezbollah," said Bachmann. "The gutted intelligence left us vulnerable. The difference between 9-11 and what happened three weeks ago in Great Britain is that our law enforcement and intelligence communities had the tools needed to prevent another catastrophic terrorist attack."
