Green Statement on Doyle Failures to Address Violence in Milwaukee
GREEN BAY - Jim Doyle has made yet another last-ditch, desperate attempt to hide four years of failure as governor, this time using his taxpayer-funded office to announce a new campaign proposal to create a special probation unit to serve the City of Milwaukee.
Yesterday, the city was rocked by two separate incidents of violence that continue to shake the confidence of city of Milwaukee residents. A 21-year-old UWM student working as a delivery driver was killed by a robber and a mother and her two sons were killed in what appears to be a drug-related murder.
Mark Green, the Republican candidate for governor, had this to say:
"We need to reclaim the streets of Milwaukee. Violent crime has plagued this city for too long. Jim Doyle has had four years as governor and twelve years as attorney general to do something about it, and he's failed. The families of Milwaukee deserve better.
"In the days after the violence that plagued the city over Memorial Day weekend, I stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Milwaukee law enforcement leaders promising to help find solutions to the challenges the city faces. Jim Doyle, on the other hand, said that Milwaukee officials 'had his number' if they wanted to give him a call. That's not leadership.
"As governor I'll work to bring good jobs, better education and new hope for the future to the central city. But, when it comes to crime, I refuse to surrender the streets of our flagship city to thugs and criminals, and unlike Jim Doyle, I'll stand there on the front lines with Milwaukee's civic and law enforcement leaders to make their city, and our state, great again."
Mark Green has been endorsed by the International Union of Police Associations, the Milwaukee Police Association and the Wisconsin Troopers Association.
